About My Work
I am a software engineer that specializes in creating user applications.
I have spent years developing intuitive, powerful software applications
for the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries. Many of the
software applications I worked on revolutionized the way research
and sample processing are done in an industry that had been accustomed
to jumping through hoops to get their results.
My Expertise

Some of My Finer Moments
Greatly improved Aria™ OS patented multiplexing technology
at Cohesive
Technologies (now part of ThermoFisher Scientific). The multiplexing
software coordinates four systems to operate in an identical
but staggered manner to deliver their samples consecutively to
a detector system, which is the effective bottleneck of production.
I revamped the multiplexing logic so that it would:
- Coordinate the systems to operate with any configurable method,
allowing greater flexibility to the customer to run different
sample types.
- Allow the user to add more samples and new systems to operate
on the fly, automatically adapting the process sequence to fit
in the new samples.
- Automatically continue operating on all functional systems,
even if one of the systems went offline.
- Allow the user several new operating methods that emphasized
speed or consistency of operation.
Single-handedly developed AriaGC™ gas chromatography software,
which resulted in an entirely new product line for the company.
Worked
closely with customer to create a set of specifications, and
leveraged the existing Aria™ OS code to quickly produce
an effective and user-friendly software application.
- Integrated software application with Agilent
ChemStation software for automated sampling.
- Produced all documentation and manual for software use.
Primary engineer that created code libraries for AriaSL™,
a lower-cost version of system that proved to be a valuable point-of-entry
system with many customers.
- Updated code library to trigger collections from a digital
signal port that was preexisting on the instrument, thus allowing
for a high-cost digital signaling board to be removed from the
assembly.
- Managed changes around a few key code libraries so that the
same Aria™ OS platform could be used to operate the instruments,
eliminating the need for an entirely new application.
Seamlessly integrated new instrument (fraction collector) into
system and software that allowed for an entirely new application,
which directly increased customer base and was a catalyst for
developing new products.
Earned 2002 Silver Column Award in recognition of outstanding
work performance and interdepartmental contributions (one-time
eligibility).
More About Me
I grew up in Miami,
Florida where I studied at DASH (Design and Architecture Senior
High), a magnet school that provided college-level design courses
in addition to the standard high school curriculum. Originally
planning to be an architect, I was instead turned on to the idea
of studying an engineering discipline during my senior-year physics
course.
I then moved to Boston, Massachusetts to study at Boston University.
I received my B.S. in Systems Engineering, and soon after graduation
began working as a software developer at Cohesive Technologies.
Working for such a small company as Cohesive Technologies, I
was required to take on many roles— as in specification
and software designer, coder, tester, technical writer, and service/support
engineer. Through it all I learned the importance of project management,
and became a more fully developed software engineer.
After several years of living in Boston, I moved in late 2005
with my wife to Brooklyn, New York to be closer to friends and
family. I continued to work for Cohesive Technologies for almost
two years as a telecommuting engineer, but the relationship was
ended shortly after the company was purchased by ThermoFisher
Scientific in late 2006. I am currently working as an independent
contractor.
